All meetings of the Zoning Board of Adjustment are open to the public, except such executive sessions authorized pursuant to state law. Meetings are held virtually.

Members

The Zoning Board of Adjustment consists of seven regular members and two alternate members appointed by the governing body.

About the Board

The Board of Adjustment is empowered by state law to hear and decide appeals where it is alleged by the appellant that there is an error in any order, requirement, decision or refusal made by an administrative officer based on or made in the enforcement of the local zoning ordinance. Also, the Board may hear and decide requests for interpretation of the zoning map or ordinance.

The Board of Adjustment may grant a variance from the strict application of the zoning regulations of the Borough of Tenafly. No variance or other relief may be granted by the Board unless such variance or other relief can be granted without substantial detriment to the public good and will not substantially impair the intent and purpose of the zone plan and zoning ordinance of the Borough of Tenafly.

Application Process

The application is available online and can also be pick up in the Assessor's Office. 

There is a $100 application fee, as well as a separate Escrow fee of $1,500.  Both checks can be made payable to the Borough of Tenafly. 

Only three copies of the application and supporting documentation are needed for the review process. Once the application is deemed complete by the Board Engineer an additional 13 copies of the application and documentation will need o be summitted along with a PDF version of the same. 

The Board Engineer has 45 Days, from the day he receives the application, to review it and deem it complete or incomplete.. If it is deemed incomplete you will need to provide additional information. Once the request information is received the review will continue. 

Once the application is deemed complete it will be placed on the next available meeting agenda to be heard.
